Creamy Garlic Prawns

Updated: Oct 12, 2021

Lockdown is doing everyone's head in! Besides my family and friends the biggest thing I miss is going out for food - whether it be a café, a restaurant or the pub!!

Being such foodies, I love to cook but it also good to be cooked for! I am sure you understand what I mean. Sometimes you know you can cook a dish just as well but it's nice to sit down, relax (especially with good company) and enjoy a meal cooked and served to you by someone else.

One of my all time favourite pub meals is Creamy Garlic Prawns. I just love the sauce and normally ask for extra and when I order it I always ask for some chips to help soak up the sauce. A little naughty I know, but hey if I am going to enjoy myself I may as well enjoy myself, right? The Seaford RSL does one of the best creamy garlic sauces we have ever had and it often gets ordered with quite a few meals just as a side serve obviously just to dip our chips in LOL!

So missing one of my usual treats I decided for lunch today we would enjoy the dish that I have been missing. Now just to let you know I love garlic and I really mean I love love love garlic! Trust me no Vampire is going to get this girl! So if you do decide to cook this, please adjust the garlic to suit your taste buds.

This dish is very quick to prepare and cook so have your steamed rice ready to go as you will be dishing up these delicious prawns in under 10 minutes. Very few ingredients go into making this amazing flavoured sauce. How could you not love this dish - delicious tender juicy prawns smothered in a thick creamy garlic infused sauce.... mmm my mouth is watering just typing this up for you now.

Another note is I don’t add salt due to using chicken stock and you can season with pepper, if you wish, but I leave that for the individual. I also remove the tails off the prawns as I really dislike having to remove the tails when eating prawns in a cook dish especially when they are smothered in a sauce you just don't want to waste any of (once again your choice on that also).

Anyway - let us know what's your favourite dish you like to order when you go out for a meal?

Creamy Garlic Prawns

Serves: 4

💚 10 sp per serve

💙 9 sp per serve

💜 9 sp per serve

1 tablespoon olive oil

3 spring onions, finely sliced

3 – 4 garlic cloves, crushed (depending on how garlicy you like it)

500 grams peeled raw prawn cutlets, cleaned and tails removed

½ cup chicken stock

300 ml light cream

2 tablespoons water

1 tablespoon cornflour

Place oil in a heavy based frying pan and heat over medium to high heat.

Add spring onions and garlic and cook until spring onions have softened.

Add prawns and cook for 2 – 3 minutes or until starting to turn pink.

Add chicken stock and cream, cook stirring for a further 2 – 3 minutes.

Mix together water and cornflour until well combined. Stir through prawn mixture and cook until sauce has thickened. (If you don’t want the sauce overly thick only used half the amount).

Serve immediately accompanied with steamed rice, if desired, please check for additional SmartPoint values.

Enjoy!
